About the NIGHTMARE
The Concept
After having collaborated with Simon on two Hapas models in the past, we set out to design the perfect signature guitar this time around.
The result is the NIGHTMARE 728: The baritone 7-string for the modern, extreme player.
It combines our extensive knowledge of baritone guitars with Simon’s vision for massive, down-tuned tone, effortless playability and uncompromisingly sharp aesthetics.
The Pickup
Ever since we developed our first in-house pickups, Simon loved the very first prototype of the BÆHEMOTH
We took that exact original prototype as our base and meticulously tweaked it from there, until we dialed in the NIGHTMÆR humbucker just right. Simon even came to our workshop in Berlin to determine the perfect pickup position for the 28″ scale length.
The raw power of this pickup gives you a massive tonal foundation, while retaining tightness, articulation and aggression across the entire range of the instrument.
The Body
The NIGHTMARE body is made of light-weight tulip tree and designed with a beautiful arch top. The ultra sharp horns are reminiscent of the Kayzer, but with a unique carve that elevates the design way above the norm.
For a 28″ baritone 7-string, the Nightmare is shockingly easy on your shoulders, not to mention perfectly balanced without any neck dive at all.
Lastly, the fine texture of the selected tone woods is the perfect foundation for the dark stain finish and thin, matte lacquer.
Its organic and extremely smooth feel makes the Nightmare a breeze to play.

After years of working and designing guitars together, my very good friends at Hapas Guitars and I finally got to collaborate on a proper signature guitar: The Nightmare 728 baritone.
While the Sludge and Judge represented modern reinterpretations of my favorite classic guitar shapes, the Nightmare 728 was purpose-built for my live and studio needs with Nightmarer.
Throughout decades of playing live, arch top Superstrats always felt the most comfortable and balanced to me. Most designs on the market lack the kind of aggression I like, though. So we set out to change that!
I'm especially proud of the headstock design, which I actually got to draw myself. My goal was to create a sort of brutalist and blade-like shape. The Nightmare 728 is also the first and only Hapas with a binding, which makes it look even more sharp.
The 28" scale and Nightmær bridge humbucker are perfect for my ridiculously low tuning. This combination sounds as massive as it sounds tight and articulate, but with a low mid growl that is pretty much the antithesis of "djenty".
My personal Nightmare 728 has already proven itself in a live setting several times - and it's simply second to none! The ultra fast neck, the tone and the balance are so on point, I could not ask for more... and I strongly believe neither would you.
